2019 Unhaul Challenge

To see the books I’ve been working through and my thoughts on them, please select the “2019 Unhaul Challenge” category at the top of this post. For a review of all my books, please select “Book Reviews” from the tabs on the menu bar.

Update: My friend Nicole is doing this with me now! Yay! Check out her booktube and follow us along. And join if you want! We’d love to have you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuMbMn8i2Bk

Hey friends! I spent the weekend rearranging my library and organizing my books. I’ve realized that I have way too many books and that many of them likely won’t suit my tastes anymore. Which is sad, but it happens.

I was an avid reader as a kid but lost much of my reading passion as a teen and young adult. By the time I hit college, I didn’t have time to read for fun but I made an effort to read some popular series (Twilight, 50 Shades of Gray, The Sookie Stackhouse series for example) but I didn’t really fall back into love with reading. Fast-forward some years and I found booktube! I began reading again and rediscovered my love for books. So here we are now!

When I started becoming part of the bookish community, I bought many books that sounded interesting. It’s been nearly two years and my reading tastes have changed and I’ve refined the sort of stories I’m looking for. 2018 wasn’t a great reading year for me but it also didn’t completely suck. I really discovered who I am as a reader and what genres I prefer. Here’s a 2018 Review Snapshot:

With all that being said, I reorganized and prioritized my TBR. I’ve got two giant piles of books that are deemed “read to keep.” This means that I have to read them and give at least the first book in a series a chance, say, 100 pages or so. If I am enjoying myself, I keep the book/series and read it. If I am not enjoying myself, I am allowed to unhaul and turn it into a used bookstore in order to find other books I love more. Here are my piles:

So there you have it. I am very excited to document this challenge and will keep you up to date on how I’m doing! I’ve got a coupe of other challenge ideas as well, so this may take a while. But I’ve come to realize that DNFing a book is not a bad thing. Not every book is for every reader and I truly want to enjoy my time when I am in a story. So if I don’t love it, it doesn’t mean it’s a bad book. It just means it didn’t work for me and I have come to accept that it is totally okay!

  1. How true that not every book is for everyone and it’s not wrong to admit you’ll leave it … without this being a reflection on the book! Wow! Great organisation of your tbr pile…enjoy. And I just agree, it’s interesing to see how one’s Reading choices change over time!

    1. Thank you! It’s so fun to see how a reader changes and grows over time. When I came back to reading, I wanted to read everything that sounded good to me. Now I’m more interested in how the story was written and if it speaks to me.
